Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 November 2026 · Effective: 4 November 2026

1. Who we are

QR Scanner & Barcode Reader (the “app”) is developed and published by the app’s independent developer (“we”, “us”, “our”), who can be reached using the contact details in section 19. This Privacy Policy explains how information is accessed, used and protected when you install and use the app. It applies to the Android application distributed through Google Play and to this website.

We designed the app so that the core features — scanning codes, extracting text from images, and generating codes — work directly on your device, without an account and without sending your scans to us.

2. Summary

  • No account. You can use every feature without registering, and we do not ask for your name, email, phone number or contacts.
  • On-device processing. Camera images and pictures you select are analysed locally on your device to recognise codes and text. They are not transmitted to our servers, and we do not operate a server that receives your scans.
  • Local storage. Scan history, favourites, notes and preferences are saved in the app’s private storage on your device. You can clear them at any time in the app, and they are removed when you uninstall the app.
  • Advertising and diagnostics. The app displays advertising and uses Google services for ad delivery, measurement and crash diagnostics. These services process limited technical and device information as described below.
  • Purchases. Optional Pro features are sold as an auto-renewing subscription through Google Play. Payment details are handled by Google; we never receive your card number.
  • Your choices. Where required, we ask for your consent before using your data for personalised advertising, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time inside the app.

3. Information processed on your device

The following information is created or used by the app on your device and is stored only in the app’s private storage (or, for exported files, in the location you choose). We do not receive it.

3.1 Camera and images

  • Live camera frames are processed in real time to detect and decode QR codes and barcodes. Frames are analysed in memory and are not saved unless you explicitly capture them.
  • When you choose images from your gallery (for example, to scan a code from a screenshot or to extract text), those images are read on your device for that purpose only.
  • The app does not capture photos or video for any other reason, and it does not upload camera frames or selected images to us.

3.2 Scan results, history, favourites and notes

  • Decoded content, the detected code type, the date and time, and any favourites or notes you add are stored locally so the app can show your history.
  • You can delete individual items, clear the entire history, or remove notes at any time from within the app.
  • If automatic saving of scans is enabled in Settings, new scans are added to your local history; you can disable this at any time.

3.3 Codes you create and files you export

  • Content you type to generate QR codes or barcodes, along with the styling options you select, is processed on your device to render the code.
  • Files you export (for example images, vector graphics, PDF documents or archives) are written only to the destination you pick. We do not receive copies.

3.4 Preferences

Settings such as theme, language, sounds, vibration, torch behaviour and product look-up preferences are stored locally so the app behaves the way you configured it.

4. Information collected automatically

To keep the app free and reliable, we use third-party services provided by Google. These services may collect information independently of us, as described in their own privacy policies.

CategoryExamples of dataPurpose
Advertising Advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, device and app information, ad impressions, clicks and other ad interactions Deliver banner and rewarded ads, measure performance, prevent fraud and abuse
Product analytics App version, device model, operating system version, language, country, app launches, feature and screen usage, session information, app instance identifiers Understand which features are used, diagnose problems and improve the app
Crash and diagnostics Crash traces, error logs, device state at the time of the failure, app version, operating system version, device model Detect, prioritise and fix crashes and technical faults
Purchases Subscription status, purchase identifiers, product identifier, country and currency of purchase Determine whether Pro features are active and restore purchases

We do not link this information to an identity such as your name or email address, because the app does not have one. The content of the codes you scan, the images you select and the text you extract are never sent to these services.

5. Purchases and subscriptions

Pro features are sold through Google Play Billing. When you subscribe, Google processes the payment and provides us with subscription status and a purchase identifier so that the app can unlock Pro features and restore them on your devices. We do not receive your card number, billing address or other payment credentials.

Google’s handling of payment information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Play Terms of Service.

6. Messages you send us

If you contact us by email or send feedback from inside the app, we receive the information you choose to include — typically your message, an optional subject line, and the app version and device model that the app adds automatically to help us reproduce the issue. We use this information only to answer you and to improve the app, and we keep it only as long as needed for that purpose.

Feedback submitted through the in-app form is transmitted over an encrypted connection to a messaging service (Discord) that we use as a mailbox, and is then delivered to us. Using the feedback form is always your choice, and you can reach us by email instead if you prefer.

Please do not include sensitive personal information or the content of codes you scan in support messages.

7. What we do not collect

  • We do not require or create user accounts, and we do not collect your name, email address or phone number unless you write to us.
  • We do not access your contacts, calendar, SMS, call logs or files unrelated to a scan you request.
  • We do not request precise location (GPS) and do not track your location.
  • We do not access the microphone, and the app does not record audio.
  • We do not collect the content of your scans, extracted text, generated codes or exported files.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for cross-app behavioural profiling beyond the advertising described in this policy.

8. Purposes and legal bases

Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or similar laws apply, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract — to provide the app’s features, deliver the content you request and manage your Pro subscription.
  • Consent — for personalised advertising and for any analytics or advertising identifiers that require consent in your region. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting your use of the app’s core features.
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the app secure, prevent fraud and abuse, diagnose crashes, measure aggregate usage and improve our product, balanced against your rights and expectations.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws, respond to lawful requests and enforce our Terms of Use.

9. Advertising and your choices

The app shows advertising supplied by Google AdMob, including banner ads and optional rewarded videos that you can choose to watch to unlock a feature for a limited time. Advertising identifiers may be used to select and measure ads.

  • Consent. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we use Google’s certified consent management platform to ask whether you agree to personalised advertising and related data use. The app respects your choice and remembers it.
  • Change your choice. You can review or change your advertising consent at any time from the app’s Settings screen using the advertising privacy options entry.
  • Device controls. In Android settings you can delete or reset your advertising ID and opt out of ad personalisation. Where you opt out, you may still see ads, but they are less likely to be based on your interests.
  • Pro subscription. Subscribing to Pro removes advertising inside the app.

Google’s use of information collected through advertising is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

10. Service providers

We use the following Google services, which act as our processors or independent controllers as described in their own policies:

ServiceWhat it providesPolicy
Google AdMob Advertising delivery, measurement and fraud prevention Google Privacy Policy
Google Analytics for Firebase Aggregated product analytics and usage measurement Firebase Privacy Information
Firebase Crashlytics Crash reporting and diagnostics Firebase Privacy Information
Google Play services and Google Play Billing Purchase processing, subscription management and core platform services Google Privacy Policy
Google User Messaging Platform Collection and storage of your advertising consent choices Google Privacy Policy
Discord Delivery and storage of the messages you submit through the in-app feedback form Discord Privacy Policy

Google is the only provider that receives information automatically. Discord receives information only when you choose to send us feedback.

11. Retention

  • On-device data (history, favourites, notes, preferences) is kept until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes the app’s private storage.
  • Crash reports are retained by our crash-reporting provider for a limited period — currently up to 90 days — and then deleted.
  • Analytics data is retained in aggregated or pseudonymised form for a limited period, configured within the analytics service.
  • Support correspondence is kept for as long as needed to resolve your request and for a reasonable period afterwards for record-keeping, then deleted.
  • Purchase records are retained by Google according to its policies and by us only as needed to verify entitlements and comply with tax and accounting obligations.

12. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these situations:

  • Service providers. Google, as described above, for advertising, analytics, crash reporting, consent management and purchases.
  • Content you choose to share. When you copy, export or share a scan result or a generated file, the destination is chosen by you and the information leaves the app at your instruction.
  • Links you open. If a scan result contains a link and you open it, the website or app you visit receives your request and may collect data under its own policy. We do not control those third parties.
  • Legal requirements. Where we are legally required to disclose information, or where disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety or the integrity of the app.
  • Business transfers. If the app or the business is transferred, merged or reorganised, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

13. International transfers

Our service providers are global companies and may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where information is transferred internationally, the providers rely on recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses and adequacy decisions. You can find details in the privacy documentation of each provider listed above.

14. Security

Your scans are analysed on your device, connections to third-party services use encrypted transport, and the app requests only the permissions it needs to work. A detailed description of our safeguards, and how to report a problem, is available in our Security Policy.

15. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you, and obtain a copy;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • request deletion of your information;
  • object to, or request restriction of, certain processing;
  • withdraw consent at any time, including for personalised advertising;
  • request portability of information you provided to us;
  • lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Much of the information described in this policy never reaches us: scan history, notes and settings live only on your device, so you can exercise access and deletion directly inside the app (delete individual items, clear history, or uninstall the app). For analytics, crash and purchase data controlled by Google, you can use the controls in your Google account and device settings.

To exercise any right with respect to information we control, email support.qrscanapp@gmail.com. We may need to ask for limited additional information to verify and fulfil your request, and we will respond within the period required by applicable law.

California residents. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising in the sense of the CCPA/CPRA beyond the advertising described in this policy, and we honour applicable opt-out signals configured on your device. You may request access or deletion using the contact address above.

16. Children

The app is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

17. App permissions

  • Camera — required to scan codes. Camera access is used only while the scanning screen is active.
  • Internet — required to load advertising, obtain consent choices, report crashes and verify purchases.
  • Vibration — used, if enabled in Settings, to give feedback when a code is recognised.
  • Photos — you may select images to scan or to extract text; the app accesses only the images you choose through the system picker.

You can review and revoke permissions at any time in Android settings. Revoking camera permission disables scanning.

18. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the app, our providers or the law. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, provide a notice inside the app. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.

19. Contact

Questions, requests or concerns about privacy can be sent to support.qrscanapp@gmail.com. We aim to respond to every message, and to resolve data protection requests within the time limits set by applicable law.
